Music is naturally viral; listeners share music and opinions about music without provocation or reward. Sherpa Ears promised to be a whole new way for people to create and share music by providing self-forming, music-focused communities (dubbed "Music Cliques") with a suite of tools for rating, commenting, recruiting, listening, sharing playlists, buying music, creating and editing music... you could even track your trusted friends' activities, listening choices and recommendations. Sherpa Ears was the first start-up company incubated by Scient. I was selected to be the Customer Experience Architect for the project and was involved in early brainstorming, user requirements gathering, participatory design sessions, naming and branding exercises. The client needed to quickly build a compelling mockup they could take on the road to show investors and music industry decision makers. As Scient's visual design staff was overbooked, I hired and managed an outside creative development team to build a compelling Flash and HTML mockup.
